Blog Tour: Angel by Laura Lee

Literary Fiction
Date Published: September 2011

Since the loss of his lively, charming wife to cancer six years ago, minister Paul Tobit has been operating on autopilot, performing his church duties by rote. Everything changes the day he enters the church lobby and encounters a radiant, luminous being lit from behind, breathtakingly beautiful and glowing with life. An angel. For a moment Paul is so taken by his vision that he is tempted to fall on his knees and pray.

Even after he regains his focus and realizes that he has only seen a flesh-and-blood young man, Paul cannot shake his sense of awe and wonder. He feels an instant and overwhelming attraction to the young man, which puzzles him even as it fills his thoughts and fires his feelings. Paul has no doubt that God has spoken to him through the vision and he must figure out what God is asking him to do.

Thus begins a journey that will inspire Paul's ministry, but will put him at odds with the church he loves as he is forced to examine his deeply held beliefs about himself, his community and the nature of love.

My Review:
While there is romance and that being between two males, the Romance is really an undertone to the bigger picture and Laura Lee has done a great job of making that happen. This story does not just present a book to pass the time, but delves into much larger themes and makes the reader reflect on things they never thought to before.

There is a strong Christian theme in this story as well which adds to the message about homosexuality.

I think this story is very well done, and the lower ratings out there have got to be from people who didn't know what they were getting into when reading it. The synopsis doesn't paint the male/male picture and I can see how this would be a surprise to some.

Definitely a great read for someone who likes to reflect on not only a story, but on themselves as well. There is a lot that can translate to our lives.

  1. I agree with you. There is more depth to Angel than meets the eye, you just have to look deep into it. I love the book and I'm glad you did too. I'm pretty excited about stopping by the Tour (our post is up) and can't to see what others have to say!
